The legs on my coils are long and curvy, but not sexy!

How do I know how long the legs of my coils for my RDA should be?

My massive magnifying glass and tired old eyes read the manuals of both, and can't find one word!

Long and curvy legs, eh Pauly? Shame they don’t come in stockings.

Here’s the deal: coil leg length isn’t written in the manuals because it isn’t an exact science — it depends on the deck design and airflow of the RDA you’re working with. The general rule of hoof is this:

Too long: Coil sits high, airflow misses it, flavor goes walkabout.

Too short: Coil hugs the deck, airflow smashes into the posts instead of wrapping your coil, and you end up with a hot mess.

Most RDAs are happy with legs around 4–5 mm as a starting point. A coily tool makes life easy, but if you don’t have one, it’s trial, error, and a few choice swear words until you find the sweet spot.

Best way to test: drop the coil in, snug it down, and check where it lines up with the airflow. You want the air hitting the side or bottom of the coil, not whistling past its ears. If it looks wrong, clip a little more off and try again.

Remember — curvy legs may not be sexy, but in the right position they’ll still give you plenty of satisfaction.
