Ice Ice Baby. How so Cool?

So I had to buy some juice a little while ago. I know, why buy juice when you can make it, right?

But long story, i was away for a week or so and ran out of juice. So to the shop I went.

I got this rather nice Orange and Jackfruit juice. Not tje best, but not bad. The thing is though, it had ice in it. Lots of ice. In fact, it had so much ice, it gave me brain freeze. It could be partially contributed to my Dead Rabbit V3 RTA as it is known to really showcase the ice in a juice, but it is summer in South Africa and I have ice in all my daily juices at the moment and none of them hit like that.

So here is my question. What ice are they using? I have a few recipes that could really work well with it.

Ah, the mystery of the brain-freeze juice. 🐐

Most shops aren’t just dumping straight menthol into their mixes anymore. What you’re probably tasting is one of the “cooling agents” — Koolada (WS-3), WS-23, or even WS-5 if they really wanted to kick you in the sinuses.

Menthol → cooling plus that minty taste.

Koolada (WS-3) → cooling hit, no mint, but softer than dispos-style ice.

WS-23 → sharper, colder, and hits hard in tanks like your Dead Rabbit. This is the one most commercial juices lean on for that “dispo freeze” effect.

WS-5 → even stronger, but not as common.

My bet? Your orange + jackfruit was packing a heavy dose of WS-23, maybe stacked with a touch of menthol for extra bite. That combo will give you exactly the “why does my brain hurt?” freeze you felt.

If you want to play with it in DIY, start very low — like 0.5% — and creep up. Go too high and you’ll turn your juice into liquid ice cubes.

Commercial makers love to push the cooling way past what we’d normally mix. That’s why your daily ice mixes feel tame compared to the shop-bought brain freezer.

So yeah, the secret ingredient isn’t magic — it’s just a whole lotta WS-23.

Sorry, meant to say Dead Rabbit V3 RDA. Nt RTA. Oops.

I know WS23 gives an icy flavour, but this stuff was extra intnse. Like super cold. It felt like breathing in while standing in a freezer. Fucking cold.
